How this board works — and its limits
Every 10 minutes we re-read the public cancellations page each consortium publishes (BusPlanner Web), and relay the notices verbatim — nothing added, nothing summarized. Decisions belong to the transportation offices; if anything here ever disagrees with the official page, the official page wins. We keep a running history of counts by region, so by spring we can show which regions lost the most bus days — a record nobody currently keeps in public.

What time are school bus cancellations announced in Ontario?
Most consortia post their decision between roughly 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. on the morning in question (Ottawa's OSTA, for example, says to check from 6:15 a.m.). This board re-reads the official pages every 10 minutes, so a storm-morning check here reflects the source within minutes.
If buses are cancelled, are schools closed too?
Usually no — the standard Ontario pattern is "buses cancelled, schools remain open," and each consortium's notice says so explicitly when it applies. Full school closures are announced separately by the school board. Always read the actual notice text, which this board relays verbatim.
What weather cancels school buses?
Each consortium sets its own inclement-weather criteria — combinations of snowfall, freezing rain, visibility and extreme cold, decided with bus operators in the early morning. We deliberately don't publish a single temperature threshold because there isn't one province-wide; the criteria links on each regional page go to the consortium's own policy.
Why does Simcoe County cancel more often than Toronto?
Geography. Simcoe sits in the lake-effect snow belt off Georgian Bay and cancels by weather zone — its consortium publishes a zone map, and a squall can cancel one zone while the rest run. Toronto's buses run urban routes that plows reach first.
Are cancellations for the whole day?
A morning cancellation normally applies to the entire day — no afternoon runs — which is the standard consortium practice. Individual delayed routes, by contrast, usually recover the same morning.
Which regions does this board cover live?
Six consortia publish machine-readable boards we relay directly: Toronto, Peel–Dufferin, Durham, Halton, Simcoe County, and Peterborough/Central Ontario — together covering most of the Greater Toronto Area's students. For other regions we link straight to the official page.
Is this board official?
No — it relays each consortium's own public cancellations page and names the source on every item. The transportation office has the final word; on any discrepancy, trust the official page (linked everywhere here).
Do high school exams still run when buses are cancelled?
Policies differ by school board, and exam-day decisions are announced by the board, not the bus consortium. Check your board's website on exam mornings — this is exactly the situation where the official source matters most.
