We measure how North America moves.
Transit Barometer takes the travel data governments already publish — border waits, airport customs and security times, ground stops, school bus cancellations — and turns it into boards, rankings and open datasets that a traveller or a journalist can actually use.
Why this exists
The numbers are public, but they are scattered across a dozen agency websites, published in formats built for systems rather than people, and almost never kept. An agency publishes what is happening right now and overwrites it an hour later. Nobody keeps the record, so nobody can answer the questions travellers actually ask: which crossing is usually slowest, what time of day is worst, is this week unusual.
We keep the record. Every few minutes we read the official feeds and store what they said, so that over time we can show patterns nobody else can — because nobody else is keeping the readings.

- Border Barometer — Canada–US crossings ranked by measured wait, from CBSA and U.S. CBP
- Customs Wait Times — arrivals and service performance at Canadian airports, from CBSA
- Security Waits (Canada) — the directory of CATSA's measured checkpoint feeds
- TSA Wait Times (US) — which US airports publish live security feeds, and which do not
- Ground Stops — FAA ground stops and delay programs, including flights bound for Canada
- Busiest Airports — FAA, StatCan and ACI rankings, reprocessed and downloadable
- School Bus Cancellations — Ontario consortium boards, relayed in one place
What we are not
We are not a government agency, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or speaking for CBSA, U.S. CBP, the FAA, CATSA, Statistics Canada or any school transportation consortium. We relay what those agencies publish and name the source every time. Where an agency and this site disagree, the agency is right.
We are also not a travel-advice site. We do not tell you when to leave or which lane to pick. We publish measurements and let you decide.
How we work
Three rules govern everything on this site:
- Every figure traces to a public source. If we cannot point at the agency data behind a number, we do not publish the number.
- We never say "real-time". Agencies publish roughly hourly. Our boards refresh every 5–10 minutes, and every reading carries the agency's own timestamp so you can see how fresh it really is.
- A gap is shown as a gap. When a feed is unreachable or an agency publishes nothing for a location, the board says so. It never fills the space with an estimate.

Independence and reuse
Transit Barometer is independently operated from Ontario, Canada, and began publishing in July 2026. Our analysis, charts and rankings are released under Creative Commons BY 4.0 — free to republish, including commercially, with credit. The underlying government data carries its own licence, which we name on each page. See how to cite us.
Corrections
If a number here looks wrong, we want to know — a data publisher that will not take corrections is not worth citing. Tell us what page and what you are seeing via our contact page. We correct errors on the page and say what changed.
