1 · Who is responsible

Transit Barometer, an independent publisher operating from Ontario, Canada, is responsible for the personal information described here. Reach us through the contact page.

2 · What we collect

Server logs

Like every web server, ours records each request: the IP address it came from, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page if your browser sent one, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use these solely to keep the site running and secure — diagnosing outages and errors, and identifying abuse or attacks. Logs are deleted automatically after 14 days. They are not used for marketing, not combined with any other source, and not shared with third parties except where we are legally compelled.

Your language preference

If you switch the site’s language, that choice is stored in your own browser under the key tb-lang so the site remembers it. It never leaves your device, it is not a cookie, and it is not a tracking identifier. Clearing your browser storage removes it.

Messages you send us

If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as we need to deal with the matter, and then no longer than is reasonable. We do not add correspondents to any list.

3 · What we do not collect

• No accounts — so no names, passwords, or user profiles
• No payment data — nothing is sold on this site
• No precise location — nothing beyond the coarse origin implied by an IP in a server log
• No advertising or cross-site tracking identifiers of any kind
• No information about travellers. Our published data is operational and aggregate — queue times, counts, service status. We hold no records about any individual’s travel, and none of our sources give us any.

4 · The embeddable widget

Our border wait-time widget runs on other people’s websites. When it loads, that visitor’s browser requests our data file, which reaches our server as an ordinary log entry as described above. The widget is deliberately built to send no cookies or credentials, it stores nothing on the host site, and it does not identify, fingerprint or profile the visitor. If you operate a site that embeds it, you remain responsible for your own privacy notice.

5 · Service providers and where data is held

We use a third-party hosting company to run our servers, and they process request logs on our behalf in the course of providing hosting. Data may be processed outside Canada. We use no analytics processor, no advertising network and no data broker, because we use no analytics, advertising or data brokerage.

6 · Security

The site is served over HTTPS, access to our systems is restricted and key-based, and we keep the little data we hold for as short a time as is practical — the strongest protection being that after 14 days there is nothing left to protect. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim ours is.

7 · Newsletter

We do not currently operate a newsletter. If we launch one, subscription will be express opt-in, every message will identify us and carry a working unsubscribe link, and this page will be updated before it goes live — as Canada’s anti-spam legislation (CASL) requires.

8 · Children

This site is not directed at children and we knowingly collect no information from them.

9 · Your rights

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask for corrections, and complain about our handling of it. In practice we hold almost nothing, and after 14 days we hold nothing at all. To ask, or to complain, use the contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
